Developing hybrid student and teacher practices in Mayotte? A critical perspective of the cultural-historical activity theory applied to smartphone-based mobile learning

Résumé
This research studies the way mobile phones are used by students and teachers at the University of Mayotte, and what they induce in terms of hybrid teaching-learning, through the prism of cultural-historical activity theory. An exploratory survey is conducted among students and teachers of the university. A discourse analysis and a thematic analysis are conducted on a set of qualitative materials. The results highlight the diversified uses of mobile phones among students, but which are confronted with a set of resistances among teachers and institutional actors. The conclusion of this research opens new perspectives for the uses of the smartphones, as a hybrid object still in development
