index - Images de l'IFPO
The French Institute for the Near East (Ifpo) is today at the service of all the disciplines of the humanities and social sciences covering Antiquity up to the contemporary period. Ifpo promotes an understanding of the Near East in general and the societies and cultures of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian territories and Iraq in particular. With its three scientific departments (Contemporary Studies, Medieval and Modern Arab Studies, and Archaeology and Ancient History) research at Ifpo covers a large academic spectrum. Researchers collaborate with institutions in host societies as well as with the international academic community to build a shared scientific knowledge. Regional and international visibility has been increased through online access to an image gallery presenting the work of Ifpo's researchers, to part of the Institute's documentary collection, and to open access documents in the MédiHAL website. Going online is expected to improve the transparency of the Institute's mission in its regional environment and to foster a more systematic interaction with the international academic community as a whole.

The project Enhanced dissemination and collaborative redocumentation of images collections on Syria (1920-1977) is supported and funded by UNESCO / European Union – Safeguarding of the Syrian Cultural Heritag (2018) and by the Aliph foundation (International Alliance for the Protection of heritage in conflict areas, 2019-2020)
